Effects of Pre - or Post - harvest Application of Liquid Calcium Fertilizer Manufactured from Oyster Shell on the Calcium Concentration and Quality in Stored ¢¥ Niitaka ¢¥ Pear Fruits

Abstract
The calcium content of fruit was increased by foliar spray and/or postharvest dipping with liquid calcium fertilizer (LCF) manufactured from oyster shells. The major form of calcium increased in treated fruit were water soluble and exchangeable ones. The additive treatment of foliar spray and postharvest dipping was most effective on the increase of cell wall calcium contents. Fruit firmness was maintained at a higher level in LCF treated fruit IS days at ambient temperature and 60 days at low temperature. The weight loss of fruit was also reduced through LCF treatment. However, there was no difference in soluble solids content among treatments.
